Anthropic’s $965 billion flex: the trillion-dollar chatbot is almost here

If you thought the AI hype cycle was finally reaching a plateau, Anthropic just dumped $65 billion worth of jet fuel onto the fire.

The company behind Claude has closed a Series H funding round that values the firm at a staggering $965 billion post-money. For those of you keeping score at home, that is nearly a trillion dollars for a company that was founded by a handful of ex-OpenAI employees just five years ago. This isn't just "startup money" anymore; it’s sovereign-wealth-level capital.

Led by heavy hitters like Altimeter Capital and Sequoia, the round also includes a cheeky $15 billion from "hyperscalers" like Amazon. But where does $65 billion actually go? Apparently, it goes straight into the power grid and the stars.

Anthropic has signed agreements for up to 10 gigawatts of new capacity from Amazon, Google, and Broadcom, while also tapping SpaceX for GPU capacity in their "Colossus" clusters. To put that in perspective, 10 gigawatts is enough to power roughly 7.5 million homes. Anthropic isn't just building a chatbot; they're building a digital entity that requires its own small nation’s worth of electricity to think.

Anthropic CFO Krishna Rao calls the demand for Claude "historic," and the numbers back up the swagger. The company’s run-rate revenue crossed $47 billion earlier this month, proving that enterprises aren't just playing with Claude—they're running their core operations on it.

Of course, you can't just hand a "frontier model" to a legacy insurance company and expect it to work. That’s why Anthropic is formalizing the AI consultant industrial complex with its new "Services Track."

More than 40,000 firms have already applied to join the Claude Partner Network. It’s a tiered hierarchy—Select, Preferred, and Global Premier—designed to vet the consultants who are currently charging eye-watering fees to "integrate" AI into corporate workflows. Size doesn't lower the bar here; a firm needs at least 1,000 certified practitioners to hit the "Global Premier" tier.

The biggest names in the game are already all-in. Accenture is training 30,000 pros, Deloitte is opening Claude up to nearly half a million employees, and PwC is rolling out Claude Code to its global workforce. It’s a massive bet on the idea that AI isn't just a feature, but the new foundation of labor.

Anthropic is effectively building a moat made of certified consultants and gigawatts of power. Is a trillion-dollar valuation sustainable for a company that spends billions just to keep the lights on? Maybe.

But as the "Services Track" turns AI integration into a standardized commodity, the real question is how long the corporate world will keep paying the premium for "intelligence" before it just becomes another utility bill. Let's plan for the long game. We’re either witnessing the birth of the next century’s dominant infrastructure or the most expensive power-consumption experiment in human history.
