Apex legends: overclocked is all about speed, but they’ve stolen your keys

Apex Legends has always been a movement shooter at its core, but Season 29, titled "Overclocked," is basically screaming "don't stop moving" while simultaneously snatching the car keys out of your hand. If you were hoping for a relaxing Sunday drive through Olympus, I have some bad news: Respawn has officially repossessed your Trident.
The headline act here is Axle, a new hypermobile "combat racer" who makes Octane look like he’s walking through waist-deep molasses. Her kit is a love letter to slide-jump enthusiasts, featuring a passive that grants increased speed and control while sliding and a "Nitro Gate" tactical that forces anyone who touches it into a high-velocity boost. It’s clear Respawn is leaning into the "movement as a toolbox" philosophy, but they’re also making sure you have to pick a movement Legend if you want to actually get anywhere.
In a move that’s going to spark some heated Discord debates, Tridents have been removed from all maps, and the majority of POI-to-POI Ziprails on Broken Moon are gone. The devs say they want squad composition to matter more for rotations, which is a polite way of saying "if you don't have a Valkyrie or an Axle, enjoy your scenic hike through the Ring." It’s a bold gamble that puts a massive premium on specific character picks.
Then there’s the "Deathbox Respawn" mechanic, which is easily the most "high-risk, high-reward" addition we’ve seen in years. You can now bring your teammates back to life directly at their deathboxes, assuming you can survive a seven-second, incredibly noisy animation that screams "please third-party me" to the entire lobby. It’s a brilliant way to reward teams that actually clear an area, but expect to see a lot of "clutch" respawn attempts end in a swift squad wipe.
Quality of life isn't being ignored, though, with "Chain Healing" finally letting players queue up shield cells like they’re ordering drinks at a busy bar. We’re also seeing a massive admission that solo-queueing is a nightmare; a new system will now match solo players against slightly lower skill tiers to compensate for the lack of a pre-made squad. It’s a welcome, if overdue, nod to the reality of the modern matchmaking grind.
On the loot front, the L-STAR is heading back to the Care Package with a scary-sounding "Redline" hop-up, while the C.A.R. SMG returns to the floor. Light ammo fans are getting a bit of a nerf, too, with stack sizes dropping from 72 to 60. Between the ammo crunch and the lack of cars, the Apex Games are looking leaner, meaner, and a whole lot more punishing.
It will be interesting to see whether the community embraces the "Deathbox" gamble or if we all just spend the season complaining about the walk from Terraformer. Either way, Overclocked is forcing a faster meta whether you're ready for the redline or not.
