Microsoft and NVIDIA want to put a petaflop in your lap

Jensen Huang and Satya Nadella just stood on the digital stage at Microsoft Build to tell us that the era of the "helpful chatbot" is officially dead. We’re moving into the age of "Agentic AI," a corporate buzzword that essentially means software that can act on your behalf without you holding its hand every five seconds.
To make this happen, NVIDIA and Microsoft are rolling out a unified stack that spans everything from the laptop on your desk to the massive "AI factories" currently being built in the Wisconsin woods. It’s a full-court press on hardware and software that aims to turn your PC into a local headquarters for autonomous digital interns.
The headline act here is the RTX Spark, a new class of Windows PCs coming this fall from the usual suspects like Surface, ASUS, Dell, and Lenovo. These machines are packing a staggering 1 petaflop of AI performance and up to 128GB of unified memory. I’d say it’s very likely we’re about to see the definition of a "standard" workstation get rewritten overnight.
If a petaflop in your lap isn't enough, they’ve also unveiled the DGX Station for Windows. This is a "deskside supercomputer" powered by the NVIDIA Grace Blackwell Ultra Desktop Superchip, boasting 20 petaflops of performance and enough memory to run models with a trillion parameters. It’s designed for the enterprise desk, but it feels like the kind of overkill that only a tech giant could love.
But what about the actual work? On the software side, Microsoft is bringing Anthropic’s Claude models and OpenAI’s latest directly into a new "Foundry Agent Service" on Azure. This means developers can mix and match frontier models like Nemotron 3 Ultra with local hardware to balance cost and speed.
They are also tackling the "will my AI steal my identity" problem with something called NVIDIA OpenShell. Integrated into GitHub Copilot, it’s a secure runtime that sandboxes agents in their own containers, checking every outbound call against strict policy before the AI can touch your files or credentials.
We’re already seeing what this looks like in the hands of the next generation. At the Imagine Cup World Championship, Patrick Brown from the University of Oxford took home the $150,000 prize for CopyFlag. His startup uses Azure-powered AI to help creators detect when their work has been stolen or modified by—you guessed it—other generative AI.
It’s a bit of a tech Ouroboros, isn't it? We’re building massive AI factories to generate content, then building even more massive hardware to run agents that find and take down that same content.
The Fairwater Wisconsin AI factory is already live to support this scale, running hundreds of thousands of Blackwell systems.
