Xbox’s SGF blitz: final fantasy VII revelation, agent 47’s makeover, and the 2027 waiting game

Summer Game Fest 2026 just reminded us that Xbox is very good at telling us what we’ll be playing... eventually. The "Not-E3" floodgates have opened, and while the lineup is undeniably stacked, you might want to find a long-term hobby to occupy your time.

Looking at this practically, Microsoft is leaning hard into the "future" part of "the future of gaming." We’ve got everything from legendary JRPG conclusions to classic stealth face-lifts, but the release dates are doing a lot of heavy lifting.

The headline stealer is the one we all saw coming but still weren't quite ready for: Final Fantasy VII Revelation. Square Enix and Microsoft have finally stopped the "will-they-won't-they" dance, confirming the conclusion to the remake trilogy is coming to Series X|S.

The catch? Spring 2027. It’s a massive win for Xbox owners who felt left out in the cold, but it’s the kind of announcement that feels like a warm hug followed by a prompt to set a calendar reminder for three years from now.

If you can’t wait that long to play something familiar, Agent 47 is getting a facelift. Saber Interactive is handling the HITMAN Classic Trilogy Remastered, bundling Codename 47, Silent Assassin, and Contracts.

We’re getting high-res textures and a new Photo Mode, because apparently, the community really wanted to take 4K selfies while garrotting targets in Parisian hotels. In the spirit of clarity, this is also a 2027 project, so keep your fiber wire coiled for now.

The "playing soon" category is where the actual pulse is. RuneScape: Dragonwilds is bringing the 25-year-old franchise to consoles for the first time on September 15, 2026. It’s an open-world survival crafter that basically asks, "What if RuneScape actually looked like a modern game?"

Then there’s the technical "new blood." Son of Thanjai is a gorgeous South Indian action-adventure featuring the "Surul Vaal"—a flexible ribbon blade that looks like a physics engine's worst nightmare. It’s a refreshing break from the usual medieval European tropes, grounded in the Chola dynasty’s history and Kalaripayattu martial arts.

We also got a look at Crossfire from the AAA veterans at That’s No Moon. They’re banking everything on a system called "Adaptive Cover," where your character dynamically adjusts their stance based on the terrain. It sounds like the kind of immersive detail we’ll appreciate for ten minutes before we go back to the classic strategy of "run at the enemy while screaming."

Rounding out the chaos is Hot Wheels Infinite Rush, which looks like Forza Horizon if it were filtered through a five-year-old’s fever dream. With 150 vehicles and four "islands" to explore, it’s launching September 24, 2026.

It’s a massive spread, but let’s be real: Xbox is playing the long game here. We’re seeing a lot of "coming soon" trailers for games that are effectively two years of polish away. If you’ve got a Series X, your SSD is safe for the summer, but your patience is officially on notice.
